Uganda

Our connection with Uganda started in two different avenues that have since crossed paths. Firstly, Pastor Graeme & Lisa Roberts took a team to Kabale, Uganda in January 2005. The purpose of their trip was to help in the area of teaching and direction in relation to the setting up of “Victory Community Care Services,” a community care organisation similar to Taigum Church’s “Victory Community Services”. Secondly a team was led by David and Kathryn Guinea to Kampala, Uganda to build a house as part of the Watoto orphanage program, in June/July 2005.
Victory Community Care Services in Uganda had previously expressed that they wanted to start a school and orphanage to help street children in their district. When Graeme & Lisa discovered Destinations plans they linked us with Victory Community Care Services.
Now, in 2007, the first team will leave in early May to begin the development of the first orphanage between Taigum Community Church and Victory Community Care Services in Uganda.
Bolivia

Recently, the Lord brought Mik Henzell, with his vision to build a mission for orphaned children in the Amazon Jungle of Bolivia, into the sphere of Taigum Community Church. A young woman from our congregation, Kay Connell, has joined Mik’s project in Bolivia, and a building team from Taigum Community Church visited in July 2006.

India

Pastor Rod and Jan Best have established a deep relationship with a strong but very poor church group in Hyderabad, India. The church has purchased a piece of land for the establishment of an orphanage. Upon hearing about Pastor Gary’s vision they have asked our church to partner with them. They have researched into the cost of building and running an orphanage and have sent a proposal to us.
In April 2007, Pastor Gary and Judy traveled to India to meet with the key partners involved in this orphanage project. Upon return they have expressed a great desire and need to establish Destinations in that country. With all the formalities in place, it's now a matter of time before the orphanage is operational in India.
Thailand - Partner Orphanage
Fay Walkling has worked in Thailand for over 25 years and runs the Emmanuel Home For Boys. Due to the boys’ hard lives and experiences, the home concentrates on individual attention. 13 boys in total are housed by Fay, ranging in age from 13 to 21 years. Five are AIDS orphans, seven have only a mother who cannot adequately care for them and the remaining boy has parents who need assistance.
Most boys came to Fay in a malnourished state but are all now healthy and vibrant. All boys attend the local Secondary School, performing on par with their peers. As well as the Emmanuel House, Fay also supports two young men studying to become Electricians and two young men in Bible College.
Fay’s burden is to train natural leaders and workers to carry on and propel the work to the next level. She mentors and networks with others working in other regions and supports a church in Maesarieng, where one of her students is the Pastor.
We are proud to support and partner with Fay in her works in Thailand. Fay is believing for funds to provide for the building of a cottage for some of the older boys to live in, enabling them to learn to live independently. Fay has also expressed that her work with the boys would be greatly enriched by small teams visiting on a yearly basis to help with mentoring and guiding the boys.
